In a Bind:
A Health Assessment of Chest Binding in Transgender and Nonbinary Communities

The goal of this project is to evaluate the health impact of binding, access to information about binding safety, and identify potential risk factors for adverse health effects of binding. There is currently very little existing research on binding, and this project seeks to help begin to develop a preliminary set of practical, accessible, and evidence-based harm reduction strategies for safe binding practices. The recommendations found on this site are based on data from a mixed-methods research study which utilized a large-scale, quantitative survey and a series of in-depth, qualitative interviews with transgender people over the age of 18.
